We are talking to Calderdale Council about creating a natural swimming pool in Holmes Park, Luddenden Foot. Before we go any further we want to know what local people think about it, find out your community’s concerns and gather your ideas on what you would like from the pool (and what you wouldn't like!).
Here are some of our ideas
safe & healthy, inclusive, sustainable, beautiful
We want to help improve Holmes Park and ensure existing uses are respected.
Respectful distance from the war memorial
Avoid interfering with mature trees
Ensure plenty of play space for children
Maintain spectator space around the football pitch
Room for dog walkers
The pool will be fenced and locked so people and animals cannot climb or fall in
It will not be too deep
It will be life-guarded at busy times
Natural pools have been proven safe and healthy all over the world.
Safety experts will supervise the design and how the pool operates.
Revitalise the park with new picnic areas, seating and sauna
Cafe and event space
Create new jobs supervising and maintaining the pool
Partner with the community centre eg classes, changing rooms,
Volunteering opportunities
Better play equipment and facilities
Maybe a forest school for younger children?
Education on biodiversity and wetlands
A place to learn about water safety
Safe place to swim in fresh water
Special events eg moonlight swims
Training for lifeguards and safety in open water
Water sports - triathlons, kayaks, paddle boards
